It should speed up render as well vs reverting back to the original long GOP format camera files. You would also use the Optimized MYUV files for the rendering option as there is zero quality loss. If MYUV was added as an Optimized Media option prior to edit, I believe smooth realtime 4k editing with full 4k preview might be possible with a consumer level i7 cpu and a decent gpu. Unfortunately Resolve 12.5.4 won't import MYUV files. MYUV is a also great intermediate codec due to it's speed and quality and I've used it to edit h.264 4k with a lowly i5 cpu with other NLE software. Cineform would be a nice addition as Resolve added Cineform support some time ago. Currently Generate Optimized Media transcoding for improved timeline performance helps with 4k editing - especially for long GOP camera codecs like H.264 - but the Resolve options are limited. I would like your opinion on something else. I totally agree - especially Magic YUV (MYUV) which is truly lossless and the fastest. Avisynth to read the Lossless AVI file and MeGUI to convert the AVI file to MP4. One of the reasons why I need to export in any of these two codecs is because the AVI created with the current Davinci export option can not be read by Avisynth, and I make my final MP4 renders for YouTube using MeGUI + Avisynth combo.
